Shaping industry-policy agendas at B4E Working Groups

In line with an overarching theme “Collaborate, Innovate, Act - Delivering the Green Economy”, the working groups for B4E Global Summit 2012 will involve industry players in interactive sessions to shape a business and policy roadmap towards 2050 as well as, contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge processes and standards that puts sustainable development at the core of economic development.

These working groups will focus on achieving policy recommendations as outcomes and as official business inputs into various global processes, including the UNCSD process for the Rio+20 Summit.

Working Groups I: Changing Pace - a business and policy roadmap to 2050
Tuesday 22 May, 1430 - 1800 hours

Working Groups I focuses on developing a business and policy roadmap towards 2050. Working with our lead partner, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and building upon their Vision 2050 report. The sessions address 7 key areas including:

  • Urban infrastructure
  • Food security and sustainable agriculture
  • Water management
  • Energy
  • Material efficiency
  • Sustainable consumption and quality of life
  • Inclusive business for development

Delegates can look forward to engage in presentations on the macro state of the tropical areas, interactive discussions with industry leaders and participate in roundtable discussions with the aim to deliver policy recommendations for their industry. The latter would also be presented as official business input at the United Nations Earth Summit 2012.

Working Groups II: Collaborate, Innovate, Act
Wednesday 23 May, 0900 - 1200 hours

Working Groups II is organised in collaboration with principle co-delivery partners and constituents to advance collaborative solutions, processes and standards that places the environment and sustainable development at its core.

In these interactive sessions, delegates will be joined by their peers and experts leading these collaborations to focus on applications and advancements of these best practices.

Outcomes such as defining action points or developing a blueprint for next steps in implementation will form the basis of these working sessions. The 7 topics to be explored are:

  • Setting global standards for green products and purchasing
  • Developing guidelines for resource stewardship in the mining industry
  • Defining next steps to advance the valuation of natural capital - a roadmap for Rio+20
  • Mapping a model for sustainable energy access for all
  • Scaling renewable energy
  • Advancing sustainable forestry for global impact
  • Advancing sustainable transport and mobility

The format of the sessions comprise of a mix of moderated roundtable and boardroom discussions, depending on the intended outcomes.

Concluding outcomes and renewed business commitments will be presented through an integrated global media campaign at the B4E @ Rio+20 event, titled ‘Big Ideas for a Sustainable Future’.
